The birds and snakes too

today i went bird-watching with a couple of friends and colleagues. it was a great experience to identify birds, insects, snakes, butterflies and other organisms. when people complain of having no time, i am glad that i could set apart time for looking and observing species i would have never ventured to see at other times. i marvel at the creation with its dappled, speckled and lovely splendour. i am so grateful for this day and the lovely experience that it unfolded.

i also learnt to be patient and quiet while stepping into the habitat of these birds who are very sensitive to intruders. the various calls that signify territory-marking, mating, nesting and others were pointed out to me.

Hopeland i owe this day to you. thanks.

  1. life is sometimes so demanding from us that we forget to take the time to stop and delight in the simplest wonders of nature. Thank you Susan for sharing this with us. It made me want to immediately leave my computer and go out to the sea and enjoy a little piece of my own nature.

  2. Yes Khulud. You should do that. Just being without any pressure, gadgets and thoughts. Difficult but sure calming and fulfilling.

  3. Susan, i'm glad you did that. here in my place, the birds for whatever name they are, are our common company to break the noise of silence here inspite of the fact that trains come and go. i feed them and just leave them alone. they really are a delight! so many wonders here that will stir up your curiosity and interest.

  4. Hey, even I live near a railway line. Hmmm. Just venturing out and finding how many species are living close to us is a wonder by itself.

  6. My pleasure susan!!!I wondered if we could have another such event around mid november sometime.Hopefully by then we'll have some rains and the Pallikarnai marsh might be just too good with the abounding bird numbers in the 1000's hopefully.
